Prayer Request for The Guay family:

Dear Friends,

Please pray for Richard. On Saturday, he had a hemorrhagic stroke in the cortex of the left occipital lobe. Thankfully, the stroke only affected his vision.

Initially, he lost all of the remaining vision in his right eye, which has been blind since he was a child. Before the stroke, that eye could see light and shadows. The stroke also caused him to lose the peripheral vision on the right side of his left eye, making his overall field of vision much smaller. We immediately took him to a hospital in Chiang Mai.

He spent the first two nights in the step-down ICU, but he is now in a regular room. We are so thankful to God for helping him through this and for the improvement we have already seen in his vision. Each day, his vision has improved a little.

Today, Tuesday, he is able to see light and shadows in his right eye again, although it is still less than what he could see before the stroke. The peripheral vision in his left eye has also increased. We are so thankful for these improvements! Please pray that his vision will continue to improve and that it will return to normal.

The stroke did not affect his motor skills, speech, or anything else. We are very thankful that it was not worse and that we are already seeing improvement.

In addition to the vision loss, Richard has been having terrible headaches. The pain has been extremely severe, so the doctor will do another MRI to determine what is causing the pain. Please pray that the severe pain will stop and that the MRI will give the doctors the information they need to help him.

We are thankful to be in a good hospital and to be receiving the care he needs. Please also pray for us concerning the financial burden. We are so thankful to God because He has always supplied our every need, and we trust Him to continue to do so.

Please pray with us for:

  • Continued improvement and complete restoration of Richard’s vision
  • Relief from the severe headaches
  • Wisdom for the doctors and clear results from the MRI
  • Strength for both of us during this difficult time
  • God’s provision for the medical expenses

It brings us so much comfort to know that we have so many prayer warriors praying for us. Thank you for praying for Richard and for standing with us during this difficult time. We are trusting the Lord one day at a time and are so grateful for His goodness and care.

Yours for Thailand,
Richard & Kristi Guay

What is a Christian missionary?

A Christian missionary is an ambassador of Christ. Each one must be yielded to the Lord, loving Him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Specifically, a missionary is one whom God sends through the support of the Church to the unreached. All Christians, however, are called to be missionaries of the Gospel. The Lord works through them to rescue the lost. What greater call can one answer?

What does a Christian missionary do?

A Christian missionary proclaims Jesus as Savior and Lord. Jesus made it clear that Christians are to reach out to “all the nations” (Matthew 28:19), especially those ethnic groups without a Gospel witness.

Missionaries do more than evangelism. The commission was to make disciples, not immature believers. Thus, a Christian missionary’s outreach involves evangelism, discipleship, and church planting. As a missionary, you support the religious activities of a church away from its primary location. Missionaries frequently work abroad and can be asked to travel almost anywhere in the world to preach, educate, provide health care, or accomplish other missions for the church. Despite the religious focus of missionary work, many missionaries also help construct homes, install wells, raise animals, or engage in pro-literacy campaigns. The actual travel is usually known as a “missions trip” and can last anywhere from weeks to years. Shorter missions trips typically run start to finish with no breaks, but longer trips usually ask missionaries to come back at least once a year and present a summary of activities to a congregation, board of directors, or another supervisory group.
